Lineman Drills Phase 3

1. Cont. with Agility drills/Duck Walks/ & Flexibility
As a coach you cannot stress footwork and flexibility drills to your players enough.
2. STM/STL/JS on Air
It is important to review these sets on a daily basis. The player has to understand “surroundings” without the triangle set-ups.
3. Power/Kick Cone Drill. (Banded)
This drill is a great tool for getting your players to REPLACE BASE! If you do not take powerful 6-8 inch steps you will fall flap on your face!

Competitive Strongman, Certified Sports Performance Coach
Hey everyone hope training has been consistent and strong! Recently I competed at the 2010 New Jersey’s Strongest Man in Atlantic City and took 1st place in the Light-Heavyweight division! The first event was a max axle clean and press and I hit 330 taking second place behind my training partner who hit 340. The second event was partial yoke squats for maximum reps in a minute. From the ground to the yoke was 12 inches range of motion and the weight was 600lbs, I tied for first hitting 17 reps. The third event was the overhead medley where I had to clean and press a 240 axle, 130 circus dumbbell, 160 sandbag, and then a 220 log for reps. The judge took a couple reps away from me for not resting long enough at the top of the press so at the end I was able to hit 9 reps which took second behind my training partner who hit 10 reps. The fourth event was a 570lb frame carry for 80ft with a drop at 40ft and then a re-pick and bring it back the other 40ft. I was able to win this event by finishing with the fastest time of 13 seconds. After winning the 3rd event I built a good lead heading into the stones.
This particular stones event was a 305 stone for reps in a minute. The guy behind me in second place hit 7 reps and I only needed 4 or 5 reps to win but I didn’t want him winning stones outright, so I hit 7 and I felt I had a couple more left in the tank. Being consistent in every event was definitely a very important reason why I was able to win and that is something that I try to do every time I compete. Afterwards came probably one of the most exciting things that happened in Atlantic City (AND NO NOT GAMBLING) but OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE!!! Once again I want to thank everyone for their continued support! Going forward I just got to keep training hard and keep looking to improve.
